The PSBA Scholarship Fund was established in the late 1980's and was originally named the Jock Loos Memorial Scholarship Fund after former President, Jock Loos. Jock was a very active member of the Pittsburgh Securities Traders Association and was instrumental in creating the scholarship program. Thus, upon his death, the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Securities Traders Association decided that it would be commendable to name the scholarship fund after him. Later when the Bond Club and the Pittsburgh Securities Traders Association merged, the Jock Loos Memorial Scholarship Fund was renamed the PSBA Scholarship Fund. Funding for the scholarship program is made possible in part from the proceeds of our Annual Advertisement Booklet and from the Annual Scholarship Raffle held at our annual conference.
The objective of the scholarship fund is to award an outstanding student with financial aid for the purpose of attending a college or university. In order to be considered for the award, the scholarship candidate must be nominated by a PSBA member and must submit a written essay setting forth his/her career goals. In addition to academic excellence, the nominee is preferred to have participated in extra curricular activities that should include participation with a volunteer program. The selection committee will also review the candidate's written essay (mentioned above) for demonstration of outstanding communication skills. A member of the Board of Directors chairs the selection committee, which consists of four group members. Together they will award five scholarships totaling $4, 000.00. The Pittsburgh Stock and Bond Association will send the funds directly to the school on behalf of each award recipient.
