PSBA Remembers the 10th Anniversary of Sept 11th

The PSBA's Fund Raiser for the Flight 93 Memorial Fund was held on September 8th at the Easy Street restaurant in Oxford Center and was a great evening.  The fund raiser was well attended with fifty members and guests in attendance.   Our efforts raised $1,300 which was matched by the National Parks Association, making the PSBA's total contribution $2,600.  Thank you all for attending and supporting this worthwhile effort.

President's Message

Dear PSBA Members and friends,

The new year is already underway and your Board and I could not be happier with how 2011 ended.  Under the leadership of last year’s board and 2011 President Tim King, we were able to continue to provide our members with access to wonderful educational and social events as well as our continued support of local children’s charities.  Through the generosity of the PSBA Membership, as well as our friends and sponsors, we were able to raise over $27,000 in charitable donations in 2011.  Our beneficiaries were the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, the Goodfellas Toy Fund, and the Flight 93 Memorial Fund.  It is with much excitement that your new board and I take the reins in 2012 and strive to exceed our past charitable goals.

Thanks to Board Member Tim Davis, we found ourselves fortunate to kick off our 2012 Speaker Series with the head of public finance and new business for National Public Finance Guaranty, Chris Chafizadeh on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.  Chris’s speech presented us with a positive story about municipal bond credits and exciting changes in the industry.  We will be hosting additional speakers from around the industry, so please check back periodically for those future speaker dates, and check your inbox for reminders.  Our Event Calendar is being finalized presently, and we look to forward seeing new and familiar faces at our annual Member Reception at Bossa Nova, March 8, 2012.

In closing, I plan to continue the work of the PSBA presidents who have served the membership before me, and would be remiss in not thanking the past and present sponsors of our Summer Gala, which will be held July 19, 2012, who allow us to bring our members the many programs we offer over the year.   Along with our membership, I would like to also thank our current and past board members, who have made the PSBA into what it is today.  Thank you for volunteering your time, expressing your ideas, and making the effort to advance our mission.

Sincerely,
David Ruscetti
President 2012

The following posting is an email from The Children's Institute.  Its board members and the PSBA board of directors wanted to share this with the membership to thank you for making this event such a sucess.

Betting on an Amazing Future

Local Association Holds Monte Carlo Night to Benefit The Children’s Institute

Who says philanthropy isn’t a gamble?

This summer, the Pittsburgh Stock and Bond Association (PSBA) raised a record $23,000 for The Hospital at The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh during their annual Monte Carlo Night fundraiser.

Proceeds will support current Hospital equipment needs including an alternative communication device for the Speech/Language Therapy department and a Biodex offset unweighting system for the Physical Therapy department, among other new equipment.

Special thanks go to Board Member Susie Shipley, who suggested the Association consider The Children’s Institute for this year’s gala.

Because of their outstanding efforts to support The Hospital, the PSBA is an amazing donor!
